| Some philosophers and psychologists bemoan the disintegration or fragmentation of the self in the contemporary world. I contest that we should celebrate this development. The belief in a single self stems from religious monotheisms having only a single god. Let us throw the baby out with the bath water. If you consider yourself an 'individual', in the sense of 'indivisible', you have not lived. If you merely consider yourself as a single being capable of playing various roles, then you have yet to play them in extremis. The selfs must allow each self a shot at its goals in life, if you wish to achieve any sense of fulfillment and remain sane. | |

| okay upon reading the sentence I know this is a piece of bs written by some idiot.
philosophers are very much different than psychologists. Theres no way they would share the same belief. Philosophy is based upon logic. like 1+1=2, therefor I say 2-1=1 Deductive reasoning.
psychology is just shit someone pulled out of their ass and put on a book. http://www.cracked.com/article/85_6-bullshit-facts-about-psychology-that-everyone-believes/
btw what the thing was saying is
You(the metaphorial you) are not just 1. ur several. There are several of you in you. And each part of u is supposedly meant for different goals of life. We must let each part of it fullfill their goal. And if you dont do so, you would go INsane and unsatisfied for the rest of your life.
so in another words, bullshit. |

| Whether or not psychology is rubbish isn't relevant at all to this discussion ^_^ With the inevitable growth that living brings, the body and mind degrades over time. Humans are animals, no matter how far we try to alienate ourselves from nature with the gathering of materials and trophies. With the hopes that in the end, living wasn't all for nothing. That all that hard work at the office (5000 years ago would be hunting and gathering for meals) payed off, and that your time breathing wasn't meaninglessly wasted serving the corporate greed (5000 years ago, you wouldn't be wasting anything, you'd be trying to survive, and surviving is never a waste of time-unless technology continues to advance at the rate its going we could all be a virtual dream that someone created, what would be the point of 'living' then). Grandfather theory irrelevant, VIRTUAL IS VIRTUAL. Wait wat? Egyptians and protestant work ethics sound pretty familiar all of the sudden, only difference is thousands of years. But with modern commercialization, we've all been programmed to feed from the corporate ladder. Ah yes, "we have no choice, working for them is survival itself(no money no food lol)." So how far have we gone from cavemen. How is anything civilized not fictional? All the animals from ze animal kingdom have adopted a survival of the fittest type of living, so naturally so have humans. There are simply not enough resources left on this earth to support everyone forever, and the power of death is scary. No matter how democratic and political we think we have become, people are still afraid. Just turn on your T.V. and watch CNN, we are already fighting for resources. The meaning behind my post isn't bs, brodog. Humans will always adopt virtues & vices that they think will keep them alive longer. Whether it's sucking up to your boss, begging for your life, or umm....making sure our species continues . IMO, the only way to live freely from these influences is to live without the fear of death completely, and that any decision that you think might impact your life, pick whatever might keep you satisfied and happy, we're all going to die the same anyway. Anarcho capitalism is the only solution. Nawt. Any form of anarchy is a simplified version of democracy, minus the government of course. Moar morality and less justice, and most morality is formed off of culture and ancestry, so it may vary around the world. However I don't know anything about economics so I can't comment on the effects of the free market. Until something dramatically changes in the world, we're pretty much going to live out our lives the same way generation after generation has forever. Even then, if we're reverted back into the stone age or have a nuclear ice age we'll either adapt and survive or die out. The only thing unique would be the dying out of all humans, individually meaningless, but as a whole it is something all together different. Starting to get into eastern philosophy. "One life is like a grain of sand, but it takes billions of grains to make a beautiful beach." - odin wrote:

Now that I stated my opinion that we are all the same, then how does one person become a writer, and how does one become a painter? When you are born, you are born with a clean slate. You are the purest being, and there is no way of foretelling what you will grow up to be. But 15 years later the way you think has totally changed, and you're already forming who you'll be by parents, siblings, friends, classmates, other people in general. My grandfather got his Ph.D. in the classics (even spoke classical greek and latin). My dad grew up with literature all around him. I grew up with literature all around. My grandmother was able to paint wonderful paintings. My aunt has the ability too but she never got into it. But not everything stems from family. I got introduced into gaming from a friend, and that takes up a lot of my free time now. However some people would find my interests and my family's interests boring. I think everyone has the ability to do whatever when they're born. It's the people who they associate themselves with (not just living ppl,I'm talking from 'jesus' to mark twain) who ultimately influence your life and decide who you are. Your life is going to course like a history book Don't be frightened of turning the page Because it is all the same It will always be the same EDIT:THIS IS GW'S 7000TH POST.

Yeah. If you be a rationalist. Fusker. Rationalism is to philosophy what Adolf is to the Hitler family name. You'll find that logic is a minor field of philosophy; most used in the theory of knowledge. Over that, it is pretty much useless as it bring nothing to table other than tautologies and self evident a priori statements.

| If im not mistaken, It is the Action/Reaction of Decisions we make on a daily basis that determines ultimately which course our lives shall take.
If you make the decision to allow another individual (whether it be family, mentors, or friends) to influence your life as to the outcome. Then you are weak-minded and easily manipulated. Having no ability to focus on the future that only you choose will leave you, in the end, Unhappy.
