wierd comp prob

i've been having comp problems lately, like when I load 2142 a blank red screen pops up and for L4dead its just a plain black screen, and for both i still have sound working.

So i ran some dxdiag tests, and it failed on both direct x8 and 9 due to "out of video memory" or osmething
(error code 0x8876017c)

and after googlin this it looks like this happens when ur graphics card doesn't meet reqs for a game, but mine used to b able to run both of these games. You guys have any suggestions?

I would reinstall the drivers or see if they're are any new updates fr the GFx card that you have.

If worse comes to worse, uninstall the drivers for the GFx Card, then physically take out the GFx Card and boot up. After this then place the GFx card back in its home, and reinstall the drivers.

What OS are you running? Have you ever overclocked the fan on the GFx Card?

VISTA is known to have issues with certain models of GFX cards.

I remember the problem occured right after I downloaded the new drivers, and like one minute before downloading it worked, and after it didn't

My comp is a windows xp professional
512 ram
graphics card is ATI radeon x700 series, 256 mb memory, Direct X version 9

Sounds to me like you have a process eating up memory, and when the game tries to load something, it doesn't have enough. You should try and stop any processes that might be causing the problem, or even better, get a new video card...

I don't think it's that, cause i've tried deleting all unneccesary stuff in task manager. I'll try reinstalling gfx card tomorrow.

to make this even more shitty, even after i reinstalled (yes, physically took the card out of the comp, restarted, putit back in, restarted and downloaded drivers) the gfx card, IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM &%*&$^%#%$@$#((*%(&%

so yeah. Any other suggestions? I htink i just might end up buying a nother comp.

hey bro long time no see !
Yeah I had a problem when my nvidia 8800gtx auto updated and downloaded the newest drivers, where I couldn't use the cloaker in game or the entire screen went really hazy. I went into the driver archive and reinstalled the previous driver - problem solved--MAYBE that is your issue as well. You CAN try to just 'roll-back' the driver for the card in device manager.... Sad
